Since 1995, civil society stakeholders in the South considered the systematic organization of the Civil Forum in the North of the Mediterranean as an anomaly that strengthens the feeling of imbalance and « Euro-centrism » emanating from the EMP construction.
Yet, more and more « interstates » initiatives and meetings are being held in Southern countries.
Despite the obstacles that autonomous civil society undergoes regarding its freedom of existence and organization, it cannot and should not draw back from the necessity to lift the challenge and show its ability to organize this major Euro-Mediterranean event in a Southern country without taboos or exclusiveness.
The Platform, founded on its intangible values (materialized in its Charter) that gather its members, intends this year to make the bet and advance firmly on the road of alternation between the North and the South in hosting and organizing the Civil Forums.
Thus and as a result of several meetings and consultations (with civil societies’ representatives – especially Moroccan and Finnish – and the concerned authorities), the Civil Forum took place in (Marrakech) Morocco from 5 to 7 November 2006.
